Why Send to X4?

The Problem

You find a great article online, but reading on your phone or laptop is distracting. You want to read it on your Xteink X4 e-reader for better focus and eye comfort. But getting web content onto an e-reader usually means:

  • Copying text manually into a document
  • Using read-later services that require accounts and sync to cloud
  • Dealing with cluttered web pages full of ads and popups

The Solution

Send to X4 eliminates all that friction. With one click, it extracts just the article content, formats it as a clean EPUB, and uploads it directly to your X4. No accounts, no cloud servers, no tracking. Everything happens locally in your browser.

How It Works

From browser to e-reader in three simple steps.

Find an Article

Open any long-form article, blog post, or news story in Chrome while connected to the internet.

Connect to X4

Switch your computer's WiFi to your Xteink X4's hotspot. The extension will detect the connection.

Click Send

Open the extension popup and click "Send to X4". Your article will appear on your device in seconds.

Quick Tips

  • Load the article first while on internet WiFi, then switch to X4 hotspot.
  • Don't refresh after switching to X4 WiFi — display the page before the network is available.
  • Use Download as a fallback to save the EPUB locally if X4 is unreachable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Send to X4 upload my articles to any cloud?

No. Send to X4 is completely offline-first. All processing happens locally in your browser. The only network communication is directly to your X4 device over its local WiFi hotspot.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Send to X4 requires no accounts, no sign-ups, and no personal information. Just install the extension and start using it immediately.

Does it work on paywalled or subscriber-only sites?

Send to X4 can only extract content that is visible in your browser. If you are logged in and can see the full article, it will extract it. It cannot bypass paywalls.

What gets stripped from the article?

Send to X4 uses Mozilla's Readability library to extract only the main article content. Ads, navigation menus, sidebars, popups, and other clutter are automatically removed.

Why do I need to connect to the X4 WiFi hotspot?

The Xteink X4 creates its own local WiFi hotspot for file transfers. You connect to this hotspot so the extension can upload the EPUB directly to your device without any cloud intermediary.

What is CrossPoint Firmware?

CrossPoint is a community-developed alternative firmware for the Xteink X4 that offers enhanced features. Send to X4 fully supports CrossPoint and will automatically adjust its connection settings (using IP 192.168.4.1) when you select it in the extension settings.

Where can I report bugs or request features?
